Site Investigation and Remedial Design
SME provides full services for sites contaminated with solvents, PCBs, heavy metals, petroleum compounds and other contaminants. This work is performed under a range of environmental regulations, including RCRA, CERCLA and related state regulations and for clients throughout the United States. The work includes:
- Due Diligence (All Appropriate Inquiry Phase I ESAs)
- Site Investigations/ Characterization
- Feasibility Study Analysis
- Remedial Design
- Remediation Coordination and Oversight or Remediation Construction Phase Engineering
SME's geohydrologic investigations and site characterizations include the use of: (1) remote sensing, geophysics, and computer modeling, (2) bedrock and surficial soil tracer tests, (3) in-situ hydraulic conductivity tests, (4) hydraulic connectivity pumping tests, and (5) groundwater age dating. SME uses state-of-the-art equipment and techniques to collect and test environmental samples. A powerful data management system is used for the efficient evaluation and presentation of environmental data. SME has extensive experience in the use of two- and three-dimensional models for groundwater flow and solute transport.
SME's remedial design work includes:
- Contaminated River Sediment and Remediation
- Soil Vapor Extraction systems for volatile organic compounds (VOCs)
- Groundwater Extraction and Treatment systems for VOCs using a range of extraction (wells and trenches) and treatment technologies (carbon adsorption, air stripping).
- Slurry Walls to control the migration of contaminated groundwater.
Our engineers have also designed practical, low cost, mechanical remediation programs for soils containing waste oils and chlorinated solvents which saved our clients millions of dollars over the use of alternative remedial technologies.
